“Doppie” was a recurring character in Paratus: which portrayed a well-meaning yet unfortunate SADF soldier who demonstrated absurd and often dangerous duties in his military service. As seen in the “Role of Women in the SADF” gallery, “Doppie’s” feminine counterpart is portrayed in the first, and only, “Doppina” cartoon from May 1976.
These cartoons offer a counterpoint to the ideal soldier through humour from the absurdity of his actions and dishevelled appearance.
